I am hearing that a deal between Gillett Evernham Motorsports and Patrick Carpentier has been reached, and the former open-wheel driver will pilot the No. 10 Valvoline Dodge in 2008.
Carpentier would replace Scott Riggs, who is leaving the team at the end of the year to join Haas CNC Racing.
With this domino falling, it leaves only a few unsigned drivers for next season — most notably David Stremme and Jeremy Mayfield, who is considered an option to split time with Dale Jarrett at Michael Waltrip Racing next season. An announcement about Jarrett will take place this Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
