NASCAR officials confiscated the rear-end housing from Kyle Busch's No. 18 Toyota after discovering a problem with it during postrace inspection. According to sources in the garage, officials found that the axle was offset more than allowable under the NASCAR rule book.
This type of modification helps make turning easier through the corners.
NASCAR will double check the measurements further at the research and development center in Concord, N.C., on Monday.
Busch finished fifth in Sunday's Pep Boys Auto 500, just his second top five in the Chase after posting a season-high eight wins in the regular season. Busch is currently 12th in the point standings.
If any penalties do come out of this infraction, it will be announced either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.
