Katherine Legge completed her first laps in a Daytona Prototype during the opening day of Grand-Am group testing at Daytona International Speedway on Monday [6 November], joining the Robinson Racing 74 Ranch Resort team.
The Champ Car rookie slipped behind the wheel of the #84 Riley-Pontiac as teams began their latest round of preparations for next season's Rolex 24 at Daytona, and admitted that she was working on finding a seat for the race next January.
"Obviously, it's one of those races that, no matter where you are in the world, you've heard of," Legge said, "It's definitely something I've wanted to get involved in. I'm very fortunate to be here right now."
"It was a lot of fun," Legge reported, "They're interesting looking cars, but unlike anything I've ever driven before. It will be a good experience for me, though. At the end of the day, driving anything you can get you hands on is always good experience, and it adds to making you a better driver."
Legge, who admitted to liking Daytona's road course, is hoping to secure a Rolex 24 seat alongside brothers Paul and Wally Dallenbach, teaming up with #84 owner-driver George Robinson. Paul Dallenbach also spent time in the car on Monday, but Legge spent the bulk of the afternoon behind the wheel.
