Yamaha.

Quote:Viewers with an interest in F1 might have noticed that Renault appeared without branding from Spanish Telecommunications giant Telefonica during testing at Jerez this week.
Although Renault is yet to reveal its final 2007 race livery, Telefonica's absence suggests a split from the French manufacturer since other more minor sponsors were still present on the car.
Telefonica and/or its mobile phone arm Movistar were a major sponsor for many years in all three classes of the motorcycle world championships, but put its full backing behind Renault - or more precisely Spanish hero Fernando Alonso - for 2006 (middle picture). Its decision had been prompted by outrage that Dani Pedrosa, whose career it had supported from the start, would graduate to the premier MotoGP class wearing Repsol Honda rather than Movistar Honda colours.
However, reigning double F1 world champion Alonso has now left Renault for McLaren - which has a long term title sponsorship deal with Vodaphone - while Renault has hired rookie Heikki Kovalainen to replace Alonso alongside Italian Giancarlo Fisichella. That new line-up might not be attractive to Telefonica and the current lack of logos could confirm that the company will not be present in 2007.
So, assuming a split, where might Telefonica money go? The other leading F1 teams already have main sponsors in place, but there is one very major MotoGP team still unbranded for 2007 - the Factory Yamaha Team, formerly backed by Camel, which will field Colin Edwards and a certain Valentino Rossi.
With Michael Schumacher now retired, seven-times world champion Rossi is now - despite his 2006 title loss - arguably the most high-profile active motor-sportsman in the world... Telefonica must surely be tempted.

MotoGP want Toseland

Quote:James Toseland’s winning start to the WSB season has put him at the top of Honda’s MotoGP shopping list for 2008.
Satellite Honda squads Gresini and LCR have both expressed an interest in the 26-year-old Brit and Toseland’s manager Roger Burnett is heading out to Jerez this weekend to open discussions with the teams.
Toseland has made no secret of his desire to switch to MotoGP. At the end of last season tested Dani Pedrosa’s Honda RCV211 where he impressed Honda bosses with his pace and feedback.
HRC Managing Director Satoru Horiike also reveals in an interview published in today's MCN (Wednesday, March 21, 2007) he feels it is inevitable that Toseland will move to MotoGP.
Despite the interest Toseland maintains his focus is with WSB and he is currently delighted with both his bike and Ten Kate squad.
He said: “I think it’s every rider’s goal to be in MotoGP, but if I go it has to be on a competitive bike. I had the chance to go this year with the D’Antin Ducati but I know I made the right decision to stay in WSB.
“Superbikes is the championship where I made my name, I am very happy here and I ride for one of the best teams in the paddock.”
MCN has learned Toseland may not have to leave the Ten Kate squad to go to MotoGP as it is rumoured that the Dutch squad are planning to run a team in the MotoGP class in 2008.
Ten Kate would continue to run their highly successful WSB and WSS projects and have recently comprehensively upgraded their work shop facilities.
New sponsor Hannspree are also delighted with the huge exposure Toseland and Ten Kate have given them already this season and are already confirmed for 2008.

World Superbike Championship team Alstare Suzuki could be moving to MotoGP next year, taking their rider Max Biaggi along two years after the Italian was put on the series' sidelines.
After a disappointing 2005 MotoGP season with the Repsol Honda team, ending with a fifth place in the championship and a contract not renewed, Biaggi did not race in 2006 and got signed by the Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra team this year.
The Belgian team's manager Francis Batta, however, is unhappy with the regulations the WSBK is likely to adopt in 2008, and is now threatening to leave the series and take his team to MotoGP.
"The problem is political: in Superbikes they are thinking of changing the regulations for 2008," Batta told Gazzetta dello Sport. "In practice, Ducati would race with the twin-cylinder 1,200cc, while we'd stay with our four-cylinder 1,000cc bike.
"Well, count me out with those conditions. I won't race in Superbike anymore and I'm not the only one thinking this way."
Asked whether Biaggi is destined to end his career in Superbikes this year, Batta replied: "Not at all.
"The contracts I have with the sponsor and with Suzuki expire in 2008. I could move to MotoGP, obviously with Biaggi. To me he seems a lot stronger than (MotoGP Rizla Suzuki riders) John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen.
"It's a tough battle. The Japanese are able to build quick bikes, but they are not present on a political level. Ducati, on the other hand, are very strong and influential too."
Biaggi has impressed so far this year by winning his first ever Superbike race at Losail last month. He is now second in the championship.

Out of respect for current employer Aprilia, and to minimise distraction during his quest for a second 250cc world title, Jorge Lorenzo and his management are refusing to comment on the Spaniard's almost-certain MotoGP move until after the summer break.Lorenzo, beaten only once in the five races held so far this season - and employing ever more adventurous victory celebrations - is widely believed to be on his way to MotoGP with Yamaha in 2008.
It is rumoured that some form of deal may already have been done, although an official announcement regarding the 20-year-old's future is not expected until August at the earliest. The supremely confident Lorenzo, a former rival of MotoGP stars Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner, has been an Aprilia rider for the past two seasons after graduating to the quarter-litre class with Honda in 2004. Lorenzo rode for Derbi in the 125cc World Championship from 2002-2004.
