Dennis Borem and Darrell Hoffman from Pro Motor Engines made history on May 13, capturing their record 3`rd consecutive MAHLE Engine Builder Showdown.

8 teams competed:

Hendrick Motorsports,
Joe Gibbs Racing,
Penske Racing Engines,
Richard Petty Motorsports,
Triad Racing Technologies.

The Pro Motor Engines team built a complete Chevrolet R07 race engine and successfully ran it for 1 minute in an incredible 19 minutes, 27 seconds, edging the Roush Yates Engines team of Mike Kasch and Jim Snyder by 17 seconds (19 minutes, 44 seconds).

Franchise gets his first

#00 David Reutimann, after not pitting when the rain came and waiting out a 2-plus hour rain delay, won the Coca-Cola 600 after officials called the race giving Reutimann and MWR (Michael Waltrip Racing - Toyota) their first Cup victory in the shortest 600 in history.

There was just one race per season at Dover in 1969 and 1970

For a couple family members at Dover, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his uncle, Tony Eury, there was too much of the latter.


Familiar face
He may not be a household name (yet), but Lance McGrew is well-known and respected around the Cup Series garage.

Change inevitable
We knew it had to happen. Something needed to be done. Why are we so surprised? Tony Eury Jr. was replaced as Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s crew chief.

But in the end, bloodlines or not, personal relationships or not -- the juniors' time as driver and crew chief in Cup is probably gone forever. Whether that's good or bad remains to be seen.

Virtually everyone at Hendrick Motorsports, including, we've been led to believe Eury Jr., wants and intends for him to stay. Pops isn't so sure, and if the father truly knows his son, one thing will be critical.

Whatever answers appear over the next few months, there's no doubt this family needs to stockpile plenty of emotions.

Kyle Busch Victory Watch

Given Busch's stunning 2008 NASCAR record for victories in a season, this was the 1`st weekend that makes me think Busch in '09 won't eclipse his 2008 total of 21 wins
(8 Cup, 10 Nationwide, 3 Truck).
His 2008 win total at this point was 10, so now the crunch intensifies, as 3 consecutive commuter weekends begin with Busch this weekend flying between Pocono and Nashville, a place where Busch's frustration boiled over last season.

Head2Head: The career moves of Junior, Newman
#39 Ryan Newman has more top-fives (4) in 2009 than #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. has top-10s (3).

There was a time when their best appeared to still be ahead of them, given the success they had early in their careers.
In 2005, however, things began to change.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. won 14 races before his 30th birthday. From 2000-04 he won at least 2 races every year culminating with 6 wins in '04. He's won only 3 races since.

Ryan Newman burst onto the scene in just his 2`nd full season with 8 victories in '03. He won 2 more the following year but has just 2 more wins since the start of '05.

While Year 2 has been a struggle for Earnhardt, resulting in the removal of cousin Tony Eury Jr. as crew chief last week, Newman is 5`th in points with a first-year organization.
