Who's UpBiggest Gain this week: : 0 to 0
New This Week : none yet
Who's DownBiggest Drop this week: : 0 to 0
Dropped Out : none yet
*
Rank 1 - PREVIOUS : 1 - CHANGE : 0 - Jimmie Johnson #48
Jimmie joked that he spent the offseason sitting on the couch, drinking beer. Wonder if his new teammate (2008 #88) had a few cases left over from his previous gig (2007 #8 Budweiser) ?
Rank 2 - PREVIOUS : 2 - CHANGE : 0 - Jeff Gordon #24
Lots of people are up in arms about Ingrid running her fingers through Jeff's hair during the national anthem. Some of us would kill for either the hair or the supermodel.
Rank 3 - PREVIOUS : 3 - CHANGE : 0 - Matt Kenseth #17
One good thing about starting the season in Florida. It allows Matt to defrost. There's nothing like metal bleachers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on a cold winter's evening.
Rank 4 - PREVIOUS : 4 - CHANGE : 0 - Tony Stewart #20
One thing you'll never hear said in the NASCAR hauler: "Tony, quit beating around the Busch."
Rank 5 - PREVIOUS : 5 - CHANGE : 0 - Kurt Busch #2
Why do I get the feeling that Kurt spent a lot of time in the principal's office on the first day of school?
Rank 6 - PREVIOUS : 6 - CHANGE : 0 - Kyle Busch #18
Kyle spent the last month practicing to say "the No. 18 M&M's Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota" without having to look at his business card.
Rank 7 - PREVIOUS : 7 - CHANGE : 0 - Kevin Harvick #29
Since the Budweiser Shootout ratings were up 6 percent, Kevin may have a future on TV if this racing thing doesn't pan out.
Rank 8 - PREVIOUS : 8 - CHANGE : 0 - Clint Bowyer #07
It worked out well for the rest of the season, but Clint would really rather keep the wheels firmly planted on the asphalt when he crosses the finish line this time around.
Rank 9 - PREVIOUS : 9 - CHANGE : 0 - Carl Edwards #99
Carl would flip out if he won the Daytona 500 on Sunday.
Rank 10 - PREVIOUS : 10 - CHANGE : 0 - Dale Earnhardt Jr. #88
One race in and already some fans are saying he only won because Hendrick cheats.
Rank 11 - PREVIOUS : 11 - CHANGE : 0 - Greg Biffle #16
This would be a perfect time to get off to a good start. Greg's never finished in the top 10 in the 500 -- and no better than 25th in the last three tries.
Rank 12 - PREVIOUS : 12 - CHANGE : 0 - Denny Hamlin #11
Denny learned some new wrestling moves as part of the Young Guns promotion. So now he's ready the next time Kyle Petty stops by.
Rank 13 - PREVIOUS : 13 - CHANGE : 0 - Martin Truex Jr. #1
Martin would certainly like to begin 2008 the way he ended 2007 -- with three consecutive top-10 finishes.
Rank 14 - PREVIOUS : 14 - CHANGE : 0 - Jeff Burton #31
Jeff on swimming: "I don't swim, I swim like a rock." Good thing he's not a hydroplane racer.
Rank 15 - PREVIOUS : 15 - CHANGE : 0 - Casey Mears #5
Casey's got the same equipment as his three teammates, without the overwhelming expectations. That ought to make for a very fun year.
* Rank 16 - (maybe) Mark Martin #01 (guess by kup)
* Rank 20 - (maybe) Juan Montoya #42 (guess by kup). ***

![[Image: 149.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/149.jpg)
1 (1) Tony Stewart 8
![[Image: 195.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/195.jpg)
2 (4) Kurt Busch 6
![[Image: 67.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/67.jpg)
3 (2) Jeff Gordon 8
![[Image: 227.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/227.jpg)
4 (3) Jimmie Johnson 7
![[Image: 68.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/68.jpg)
5 (5) Mark Martin 6
![[Image: 213.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/213.jpg)
6 (6) Ryan Newman 5
![[Image: 747.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/747.jpg)
7 (7) Denny Hamlin 4
![[Image: 580.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/580.jpg)
8 (9) Kyle Busch 4
![[Image: 143.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/143.jpg)
9 (11) Matt Kenseth 4
![[Image: 70.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/70.jpg)
10 (8) Jeff Burton 5
![[Image: 460.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/460.jpg)
11 (12) Carl Edwards 4
![[Image: 221.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/221.jpg)
12 (10) Greg Biffle 6
![[Image: 712.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/712.jpg)
13 (13) Clint Bowyer 4
![[Image: 336.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/336.jpg)
14 (14) Juan Pablo Montoya 3
![[Image: 429.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/429.jpg)
15 (15) Kasey Kahne 2
![[Image: 416.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/416.jpg)
16 (18) Martin Truex Jr. 3
![[Image: 449.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/449.jpg)
17 (17) David Reutimann 2
![[Image: 4319.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/4319.jpg)
18 Joey Logano 2
![[Image: 225.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/225.jpg)
19 (19) Kevin Harvick 2
(Burnout Challenge)
... Я думал это могло быть нечто с купальными костюмами".
![[Image: 607.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/607.jpg)
20 Sam Hornish Jr. 2

CHARLOTTE - Week 12 of 36 (By: Mark Aumann)
Tony Stewart - Rank 1 - PREVIOUS : 1 - CHANGE : 0
Jimmie Johnson - Rank 2 - PREVIOUS : 9 - CHANGE : +7
Mark Martin - Rank 3 - PREVIOUS : 8 - CHANGE : +5
Jeff Gordon - Rank 4 - PREVIOUS : 3 - CHANGE : -1
Ryan Newman - Rank 5 - PREVIOUS : 5 - CHANGE : 0
Kurt Busch - Rank 6 - PREVIOUS : 4 - CHANGE : -2
Greg Biffle - Rank 10 - PREVIOUS : 5 - CHANGE : -5
Kyle Busch - Rank 8 - PREVIOUS : 2 - CHANGE : -6
Jeff Burton - Rank 9 - PREVIOUS : 7 - CHANGE : -2
Denny Hamlin - Rank 6 - PREVIOUS : 6 CHANGE : 0
Matt Kenseth - Rank 11 - PREVIOUS : 11 - CHANGE : 0
Martin Truex Jr. - Rank 12 - PREVIOUS : N*R - CHANGE : *
Dale Earnhardt Jr. - Rank 13 - PREVIOUS : 12 - CHANGE : -1
Juan Montoya - Rank 14 - PREVIOUS : N/R
Brian Vickers - Rank 15 - PREVIOUS : 15 - CHANGE : 0

Power Rankings Dover
Kyle Busch
After having rain wipe out 2 excellent chances for race wins last weekend, I don't think Kyle will be making a guest appearance on the Weather Channel any time soon.
Mark Martin
Mark's day can be summed up by the parody of the old Kenny Rogers hit: "You picked a fine time to leave me, loose wheel."
Jimmie Johnson
"I appreciate the fans who stuck around and watched on television." Let's not forget the PRN guys who did more weather reporting than pit reporting by the end of the day.
David Reutimann
The Franchise, Billy Bad Butt ... this team may be 13th in points but leads the series in cool nicknames.
Denny Hamlin
Denny's last 3 Dover finishes: 38th, 43rd, 38th.
Denny's last 3 Pocono finishes: 3rd, 3rd, 23rd.
Which of the next 2 races do you think Denny's looking most forward to?
Kurt Busch
It was a big hit for the Beach Boys in 1966, but as Kurt knows, there's no such thing as a "good vibration" when you're doing 180 mph.
Jeff Burton
There's an old racing joke:
Tight is when you hit the wall with the right side of the car.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the left side.
The right side of the No. 31 after Monday's race told you all you needed to know about Jeff's day.
Brian Vickers
The red flag waved so many times over the Red Bull on Monday, the only thing missing was a matador. Then again, Bobby Allison -- who used to drive Matadors -- gave the command to start engines, so perhaps that was the problem.
Greg Biffle
The slogan of the American Red Cross is "Help can't wait." The way Greg's car swung back and forth from tight to loose on Monday, he was close to needing all the help he could get.
Matt Kenseth
It was good to see the winner of this year's Daytona 380 bounce back with a top-10 finish in the Coca-Cola 340.5.
Juan Montoya
It's NASCAR's longest race, already made longer by a one-day postponement and several red flags, but based on how well he was running, Juan certainly was willing to hang around a little while longer.

MICHIGAN - Week 15 of 36 (By: Mark Aumann)
Who's Up - Biggest Gain this week:
#00 David Reutimann: 12th to 6th
New This Week :#42 Juan Montoya + #47 Marcos Ambrose
Who's Down - Biggest Drop this week:
#2 Kurt Busch: 7th to 12th
Dropped Out : #11 Denny Hamlin + #83 Brian Vickers
Tony Stewart
For all the worries about whether Tony would have enough fuel to get to the finish line, he was still able to do a pair of burnouts, one set of donuts and stop at the Wawa on the way home.
Jimmie Johnson
You know it's going to be one of those days when first it's the wrong time to pit, and then later on, it's the wrong time not to pit.
Ryan Newman
Ryan is proof positive that it only takes a single spark to turn a gloomy day into a bright one.
Jeff Gordon
You've heard the phrase "turning trash into treasure?" Jeff's car was junk during the middle stages of Sunday's race, but he scored a top-five finish thanks to some heads-up fuel mileage strategy.
Carl Edwards
Carl's description of fuel economy racing: "The problem with it is you don't know how much fuel you have. You start going back in your mind, thinking about how you drove all those runs, and then you're so confused, you have no clue what you're doing, but you just hope for the best."
David Reutimann
He'll just keep calling me: If they ever wanted to remake *Ferris Bueller's Day Off* with NASCAR drivers, David would make a great Cameron. Although so far, he hasn't killed the car.
Kyle Busch
The Kids Aren't Alright: Why did Kyle go all Pete Townshend in Victory Lane at Nashville? Maybe he found out the lessons weren't included. And I know it was a Gibson guitar, but "Kyle's Fender bender" kept going through my mind.
Greg Biffle
For a guy who seems to always be running at the front at Michigan, how is it possible that Greg hasn't won there since 2005?
Mark Martin
The 1`st of Mark's 4 Michigan wins came in 1990. Joey Logano was 3 months old at the time, which means he couldn't even eat sliced bread.
Matt Kenseth
"We ran 3`rd all day and finished 16`th. I don't know what else to say about it." It's a good thing Matt wasn't assigned a 250-word report on what he did during his summer vacation.
Jeff Burton
Jeff's back in what seems to be his comfort zone. He's finished on the lead lap in each of the last 10 races, but has led only 6 laps during that span.
Kurt Busch
Maybe the nickname for the car they used at Pocono should be "Moby-Dick," because when the water pump failed, it threw out a spray of steam from the overflow worthy of a breaching whale.
Juan Montoya
No, no, not Detroit!: I wouldn't say Juan's Chase chances hinge on one weekend, but if he could break his Michigan jinx, it be would huge. He's never finished on the lead lap there, and his average Michigan finish is 33rd.
Kasey Kahne
News item: Richard Petty Motorsports lays off employees because of Chrysler bankruptcy. How will that affect Kasey? Well, if he pulls into the pits and there's a stack of tires, an air wrench and two fuel cans sitting there with a sign that says " Help yourself," he'll know for sure.
Marcos Ambrose
Lean like a cholo? "I've got to work on my elbow strength, because my elbows are worn out." That's what happens when that Down AKA Kilo song gets stuck in your head all day.

NEW HAMPSHIRE - Week 17 of 36 (By: Mark Aumann)
Who's Up - Biggest Gain this week:
#9 Kasey Kahne: 16th to 4th
New This Week :#9 Kasey Kahne + #47 Marcos Ambrose
Who's Down - Biggest Drop this week:
#5 Mark Martin: 3rd to 8th
Dropped Out : #83 Brian Vickers + #31 Jeff Burton
Tony Stewart
Let's play good news, bad news this week:
Good news: Tony's virtually assured of a spot in the Chase.
Bad news: Tony could be 20 points behind after Richmond. =)
Jimmie Johnson
Good news: Jimmie rallied after a pit-road speeding penalty to finish fourth.
Bad news: Miller Lite (#2) won't be sponsoring his golf tournament next winter.
Jeff Gordon
Good news: Jeff's back wasn't hurting him at Sonoma.
Bad news: Jeff's car was more of a pain on Sunday.
Kasey Kahne
Good news: Kasey got to celebrate a win with Richard Petty.
Bad news: Richard wouldn't let him wear the cowboy hat. =)
Carl Edwards
Good news: Carl won his first race of the season. =)
Bad news: It was in Wisconsin instead of California.
Denny Hamlin
Good news: With five top-10s in six starts, Loudon may be Denny's best track.
Bad news: He hasn't led a lap there since his 2007 win. =)
Ryan Newman
Good news: Despite finishing 17th, Ryan's a solid sixth in the standings.
Bad news: With Daytona and Indy looming, Ryan needs a rebound at Loudon.
Mark Martin
Good news: Mark's bad luck stayed away for 112 laps.
Bad news: The race ended up going 113 laps. =)
Juan Montoya
Good news: Another sixth-place finish for Juan.
Bad news: He never got to show what he could do with the lead.
Marcos Ambrose
Good news: By his own admission, Marcos felt like he "passed 200 cars."
Bad news: Unfortunately, they were the same 25 cars on every restart. =)
Greg Biffle
Good news: Greg's car somehow made it to the finish line. =)
Bad news: The guys in the body shop will be working overtime.
Kurt Busch
Good news: Kurt somehow salvaged a 15th-place finish.
Bad news: He might not use his Lowe's (#48) credit card any time soon.
Kyle Busch
Good news: Kyle has led laps in 10 of 16 races this season. =)
Bad news: That win at Richmond seems like a long time ago.
David Reutimann
Good news: The Franchise is only 40 points out of a Chase berth.
Bad news: Getting spun out at Sonoma didn't help matters any.
Matt Kenseth
Good news: There's only one more road course on the schedule.
Bad news: There's still one more road course on the schedule. =)

DAYTONA = Week 18 of 36 = By: Mark Aumann
Who's Up - Biggest Gain this week:
#2 Kurt Busch: 12th to 4th
New This Week :
#20 Joey Logano
Who's Down - Biggest Drop this week:
#39 Ryan Newman: 7th to 14th
Dropped Out :
#47 Marcos Ambrose
![[Image: tstewart00.002.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/tstewart00.002.jpg)
Tony Stewart
With five consecutive top-10 finishes -- and 12 in his past 14 starts -- Tony's most definitely "taking care of business."
![[Image: jgordon00.002.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/jgordon00.002.jpg)
Jeff Gordon
Jeff was all in favor of double-file restarts, but he didn't realize that meant he'd have to start next to the same guy all afternoon.
![[Image: jjohnson00.002.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/jjohnson00.002.jpg)
Jimmie Johnson
It may have been more coincidence than anything, but wasn't it fascinating that after Kurt Busch took the brunt of the bump at Sonoma, Jimmie wound up on the short end of things one week later?
![[Image: kbusch00.002.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/kbusch00.002.jpg)
Kurt Busch
Between Kurt and Jeff Gordon and the approaching rain, that was some of the best racing we've seen all season ... for second place.
![[Image: mmartin00.002.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/mmartin00.002.jpg)
#5 Mark Martin
The bad news: Mark's never won a Cup race at Daytona.
The good news: He can still see the post-race fireworks from his back deck.
#20 Joey Logano
I know he's still learning, but somebody needs to tell Joey that you do the celebratory spin after you win the race, not during.
#00 David Reutimann
If the rumors are true and Martin Truex Jr. will be David's teammate next season, it looks like they've found a new pitcher for the company softball team.
![[Image: kbusch01.003.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/kbusch01.003.jpg)
Kyle Busch
Kyle apologized for kicking off that eight-car, chain-reaction accident. But in honor of Michael Jackson, he could have blamed it on the boogie.
![[Image: kkahne00.004.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/kkahne00.004.jpg)
Kasey Kahne
Interesting that all of Kasey's top-10 finishes have come in pairs this season. Perhaps he can make it three-of-a-kind at Daytona.
![[Image: cedwards00.002.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/cedwards00.002.jpg)
Carl Edwards
We're nearing the halfway point and Carl is still winless. Perhaps a return to Daytona will be just the ticket, since he came within inches of winning there last July.
![[Image: dhamlin00.002.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/dhamlin00.002.jpg)
Denny Hamlin
It was a wild weekend for Denny's Joe Gibbs teammates, with one winning and the other touching off a huge wreck. But it could be worse. Imagine sitting between Scott Speed and Brian Vickers at this week's team meeting.
![[Image: gbiffle00.003.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/gbiffle00.003.jpg)
Greg Biffle
You know, if the team paints the scrape marks on the car before the race, maybe Greg will quit trying to add them on his own.
#42 Juan Montoya
Maybe it's better if Juan doesn't lead a lap. The last three times he's been in the lead -- Talladega, Dover and New Hampshire -- he's finished outside of the top 10.
![[Image: rnewman00.002.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/rnewman00.002.jpg)
Ryan Newman
Not-so-noble gas: Ryan's rain gamble turned out to be an "ether-or" statement not necessarily substantiated in logic.
![[Image: mkenseth00.002.jpg]](http://i.a.cnn.net/nascar/.element/img/2.0/sect/news/features/power_rankings/mkenseth00.002.jpg)
Matt Kenseth
Stay thirsty, my friends: It's a little-known fact that Matt was a finalist for the title of "the most interesting man in the world," but he was way too modest to accept.

2009 NASCAR Cup Power Rankings
http://www.nascar.com/news/features/powe...index.html
INDIANAPOLIS - Week 20 of 36 (By: Mark Aumann)
Who's Up - Biggest Gain this week:
#5 Mark Martin: 15th to 4th
New This Week :#83 Brian Vickers + #00 David Reutimann
Who's Down - Biggest Drop this week:
#47 Marcos Ambrose: 8th to 15th
Dropped Out : #17 Matt Kenseth + #16 Greg Biffle
Tony Stewart #14 CHEVY
Tony is quickly becoming as much a fixture at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches.
Jeff Gordon #24 CHEVY
Since Jeff hosts a bowling tournament every year at Indy, it's easy for him to keep his mind out of the gutter.
Jimmie Johnson #48 CHEVY
Jimmie's going to announce plans for his 2009 charity golf tournament this weekend, including a putting contest and media golf cart roof ride-along.
Mark Martin #5 CHEVY
Everybody needs to get off Mark's case about turning 50.
Heck, if Hershel McGriff can still be competitive at 81, that means Mark can retire and unretire at least a dozen more times.
Denny Hamlin #11 TOYOTA
After Denny finished 38th with fuel pump problems at Pocono, he's posted 4 top-5 finishes in the past 5 races.
Kasey Kahne #9 DODGE
The Brickyard seems to be all or nothing for Kasey.
He's finished in the top 10 three times, and 36th and 40th in the other two races.
Kurt Busch #2 DODGE
After yet another encounter with Jimmie Johnson, Kurt has to be asking himself, "Why do we keep bumping into each other like this?"
Carl Edwards #99 FORD
Carl hasn't had the chance to break out the backflip after a Cup win this season.
Perhaps adding a degree of difficulty -- like kissing the bricks -- might impress the judges.
That or switching signature move coaches.
Ryan Newman #39 CHEVY
Purdue's band loves to show off its Big Bass Drum at Indy every May.
Boilermaker alum Ryan would like nothing more than to beat the competition the same way Sunday.
Juan Montoya #42 CHEVY
Juan's supposedly carrying a paint scheme that matches his Indy 500-winning car.
It's a good thing it's not the Formula One paint scheme, or he might be tempted to take off backwards through the infield.
Brian Vickers #83 TOYOTA
Red Bull may give you wings, but it also apparently makes for a very loose car in the closing laps, as Brian found out at Chicagoland.
Kyle Busch #18 TOYOTA
Smashing a perfectly good guitar: Kyle has one top-10 and an average finish of 18.5 in 6 Cup races since his Nashville trophy bash.
David Reutimann #00 TOYOTA
Owner Michael Waltrip recently called David the backbone of his entire organization.
Maybe that night school chiropractic degree program is finally paying off.
Joey Logano #20 TOYOTA
After Joey wound up spinning Sam Hornish Jr., I'm guessing he'll probably have to wait more than six weeks for that Mobil 1 rebate check.
Marcos Ambrose #47 TOYOTA
Hey, if Mark Webber can hoist the Australian flag by winning the German Grand Prix, the least Marcos can do is second the motion at Indy this weekend.

Evidence No. 234 that Tony Stewart is a changed man: When Kyle Busch kept saying the Daytona wreck was Stewart's fault, Smoke never even considered rearranging Shrub's face with a torque wrench.
#24 Jeff Gordon = 13 TOP 10s
![[Image: 67.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/67.jpg)
So you think Four-Time lost his cajones? Did you see the closing laps at Chicagoland? By the way, he's the all-time Brickyard leader in wins, poles, top-5s, top-10s, laps led, money won and average finish.
#48 Jimmie Johnson = 13 TOP 10s
![[Image: 227.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/227.jpg)
All that stuff we just said about how good Jeff Gordon has been at Indy during his career -- JJ has been even better over the past 3 years, even when his tires were popping like balloons in a pizza oven.
#11 Denny Hamlin = 8 TOP 10s
![[Image: 747.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/747.jpg)
Lost amid all the talk about his bad luck and his 2 high-profile teammates, Hambone has gotten on a roll with 4 top-5s in 5 races and a jump from 12th to 5`th in points.
#2 Kurt Busch = 10 TOP 10s
![[Image: 195.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/195.jpg)
Busch showed his old teeth after Chicago when he said he'd "lost respect" for Jimmie Johnson. I can't go to Indy without remembering Busch declaring Jimmy Spencer a "decrepit old has-been."
#39 Ryan Newman = 9 TOP 10s
![[Image: 213.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/213.jpg)
In 8 previous trips to IMS, this Indiana native has never started lower than 8`h but has finished inside the top 10 only once. Do what?
#99 Carl Edwards = 9 TOP 10s
![[Image: 460.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/460.jpg)
King Carl seemed destined for his 6`th top-10 in 8 weeks but got shuffled back during the crazy wave of restarts. He was the runner-up at the Brickyard 400 presented by Badyear Tires one year ago.
#42 Juan Pablo Montoya = 9 TOP 10s
![[Image: 336.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/336.jpg)
I can't believe all the confused e-mails I got from last week's JPM reference to the theme song from "The Jeffersons." Hey, we're moving on up.
#5 Mark Martin = 9 TOP 10s
While the young whippersnappers keep whining about double-file restarts, NASCAR's grand old man keeps whipping their snappy little butts.
#9 Kasey Kahne = 7 TOP 10s
![[Image: 429.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/429.jpg)
Kahne and Jeff Gordon looked like they were running an old USAC dirt race during the closing laps at Chicago. Between Gordon's hair and Kahne's blue eyes, they also looked good doing it.
#17 Matt Kenseth = 7 TOP 10s
![[Image: 143.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/143.jpg)
The numbers said Matty K was due for a great Chicago finish. The sleep deprivation resulting from having a new baby just a few days before the green flag made that math useless.
#18 Kyle Busch = 6 TOP 10s
![[Image: 580.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/580.jpg)
It's time to start preparing ourselves for the fact that Shrub might miss the Chase. Wait, why is everyone smiling?
#47 Marcos Ambrose = 5 TOP 10s
Drivers from 10 nations have won the Indianapolis 500.
Drivers from four nations have won at Indy in the U.S. GP.
No one from Australia has won a race at IMS. Just sayin'.
#83 Brian Vickers = 8 TOP 10s
Pssst. Red Bull execs are in Europe trying to convince the boss to bail on Toyota and do a deal with Hendrick Motorsports for 2010. Hey, remind me, what team was it Vickers used to drive for?
#16 Greg Biffle = 8 TOP 10s
Show of hands: Who among you really truly believes in The Biff as a Chase contender? Mrs. Biffle, put your hand down.
#33 Clint Bowyer = 7 TOP 10s
![[Image: 712.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/712.jpg)
In 3 trips to the Brickyard, the Pride of Emporia, Kan., has finished fourth, 13th and 19th.
To quote "Planes, Trains and Automobiles":
"You're going the wrong way!"
#00 David Reutimann = 5 TOP 10s
![[Image: 449.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/449.jpg)
Reut's Chase hopes are fading. He has a new teammate on deck (Martin Truex Jr.) and is only slightly better at Indianapolis than Mike McDowell and Mike Wallace. Spend your off week praying, brother.
#31 Jeff Burton = 6 TOP 10s
![[Image: 70.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/70.jpg)
Baby Burton has done an about-face on double-file restarts. Wanna know why? Perhaps it's his average finish of 25.5 since the rule was put in place.
#20 Joey Logano = 4 TOP 10s
![[Image: 4319.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/4319.jpg)
If they ran Nationwide Series cars in the Cup series, he might already have 6 wins. Regardless, I still say he'll win two Cup races before the end of the season. Seriously.
#88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. = 3 TOP 10s
![[Image: 150.jpg]](http://a.espncdn.com/i/rpm/mugs/35x48/150.jpg)
Poor Tony Eury Jr. All he did Thursday was speak the truth -- that Earnhardt is feeling the pressure and not having any fun -- and the 88 fans still trashed him. Then again, so did Earnhardt.

POCONO - Week 21 of 36 (By: Mark Aumann)
Who's Up - Biggest Gain this week:
#16 Greg Biffle: 16th to 6th
New This Week :#16 Greg Biffle + #17 Matt Kenseth
Who's Down - Biggest Drop this week:
#11 Danny Hamlin: 5th to 10th
Dropped Out : #18 Kyle Busch + #47 Marcos Ambrose
Tony Stewart #14 CHEVY
Want a statistical explanation as to Tony's success in 2009?
He leads all Cup drivers with 18 lead-lap finishes,
and he and teammate Ryan Newman are 1-2 in total laps completed.
Jimmie Johnson #48 CHEVY
The person who coined the phrase "respect your elders" never tried to make an outside pass for the lead in Turn 1 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Mark Martin #5 CHEVY
Mark on whether he was "big picture" racing in the closing laps: "You can't win if you wreck. I was driving as fast as I could without wrecking, man."
Jeff Gordon #24 CHEVY
It's all a matter of perspective. Jeff finished ninth at Indy and called it a "decent day."
That would have been a career highlight for an awful lot of other drivers in the field.
Kasey Kahne #9 DODGE
Peaking at the right time?: Kasey has 8 top-10 finishes this season,
and 6 of them have come in the last 9 races.
Greg Biffle #16 FORD
After wasting a good run at Michigan, Greg wasn't willing to make another fuelish mistake.
Brian Vickers #83 TOYOTA
Taking the Bull by the horns: Ever since that Nationwide Series
wreck with Cup teammate Scott Speed at New Hampshire,
Brian has finishes of 7`th, 7`th and 5`th.
Juan Montoya #42 CHEVY
Inconceivable: I wonder if Juan will now spend the next 20 years vowing revenge on a six-fingered NASCAR official?
Carl Edwards #99 FORD
The good news: Carl made more green-flag passes at Indy than anybody other than Casey Mears.
The bad news: That's what happens when you start 41st.
Denny Hamlin #11 TOYOTA
Denny desperately needs the Pocono magic that earned him 2 wins and 5 top-10s in his first 5 visits,
and not the one that's caused him to finish 23rd and 38th in the last 2 trips.
Kurt Busch #2 DODGE
Horace Mann said education is the great equalizer.
Kurt and his crew would like Horace to explain why that tire equalized and put him a lap down.
David Reutimann #00 TOYOTA
The good news: David now has 6 top-10 finishes this season.
The bad news: David's average finish in the next race after a top-10 finish this season is 26.2.
Ryan Newman #39 CHEVY
Ryan will make an appearance at the Lyons Fire Company's annual Racefest in Pennsylvania on Thursday.
I guess they invited him because they heard he was heavily involved with Smoke.
Matt Kenseth #17 FORD
With Matt announcing he's going from DeWalt to Crown Royal in 2010,
I heard one punster call it an inherently whisky move.
Joey Logano #20 TOYOTA
Joey has more wins (1) and top-10 finishes after 20 races than
Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jamie McMurray and Martin Truex Jr.

WATKINS GLEN - Week 22 of 36 (By: Mark Aumann)
Who's Up - Biggest Gain this week:
#11 Danny Hamlin: 10`th to 3`rd
New This Week :#33 Clint Bowyer + #77 Sam Hornish Jr.
Who's Down - Biggest Drop this week:
#16 Greg Biffle: 6`th to 12`th
Dropped Out : #00 David Reutimann + #20 Joey Logano
Tony Stewart #14 CHEVY
After losing his Swagger on the first hot lap of practice Saturday, it was good to see Tony regain a bit of it in Monday's race.
Jimmie Johnson #48 CHEVY
Following that amazing series of circumstances, I'm surprised that Hollywood isn't already planning
"The Jimmie Johnson Story: All Lucky Dogs Go To Heaven."
Denny Hamlin #11 TOYOTA
Denny drove that race with emotion and intensity, and he made it obvious he wasn't about to let somebody else's dream (machine) stand in his way.
Mark Martin #5 CHEVY
They were making a big deal on television out of the fact that Mark's never won at Pocono. So what?
If he wins the championship, he'll have enough money to buy the place.
Jeff Gordon #24 CHEVY
"It was just nuts. I saw so many guys rubbing, banging, smokin' sideways, three-wide, four-wide, and I was right in the middle of it."
I'm not sure whether Jeff was describing the race or the parking lot afterwards.
Kasey Kahne #9 DODGE
Kasey's racing schedule this week:
Monday - Pocono, Wednesday - Williams Grove, Thursday - Oswego, Sunday - Watkins Glen.
What, he couldn't squeeze the Coney Island bumper cars in there somewhere?
Juan Montoya #42 CHEVY
In his post-race news conference, Juan was asked to repeat one of his answers in Spanish.
And no, it wasn't about Kasey Kahne being angry with him after the race.
Brian Vickers #83 TOYOTA
So, which Brian shows up at Watkins Glen this weekend?
The one who won the pole at Sonoma, or the one who has an average finish of 21st in 10 road-course starts?
Clint Bowyer #33 CHEVY
Signs that things haven't been going that great recently:
Somebody stopped Clint in the garage area after Monday's race and asked what he had been doing on his summer vacation.
Kurt Busch #2 DODGE
Bad karma chameleon: At Indy, Kurt needed the race to go yellow and it stayed green.
At Pocono, Kurt needed the race to stay green and it kept going yellow.
Carl Edwards #99 FORD
Carl had three goals coming into the season:
Win the championship, win at Martinsville and win a road course.
Unless they reconfigure Martinsville between now and October, this is probably Carl's best shot at goal No. 3.
Greg Biffle #16 FORD
Greg got to meet Buffalo Bills placekicker Rian Lindell this week.
Not only are they from the same hometown, but they both make a living using only their right foot.
(Just ask Sterling Marlin.)
Ryan Newman #39 CHEVY
Ryan's average finish on superspeedways: 18.5
Ryan's average finish on intermediate tracks: 17.5
Ryan's average finish on short tracks: 15.1
Ryan's average finish on road courses: 13.1
Matt Kenseth #17 FORD
In his Cup career, Matt has led a total of 5,622 laps.
Only one of those has come on a road course.
Sam Hornish Jr. #77 DODGE
Shelve the sideways nickname.
After his strong run at Pocono, a lot of new fans might be joining Sam's club.

NASCAR Week 4 Power Rankings
Still trying to figure out what happened in Atlanta? Power Rankings helps makes sense of the madness.
Kevin Harvick - Had a bad day and finished 9`th.
OK, so maybe he is a legitimate championship contender.
Kurt Busch - Big Busch took Shrub's former crew chief and laughed all the way to Victory Lane at Atlanta.
Mark Martin - You know there are tire problems when Martin spins out by himself. When it rains on Martin, it pours.
Tony Stewart - He and teammate Ryan Newman both got "tired" at Atlanta, and this is not the guy Goodyear wants having tire problems.
Juan Pablo Montoya - After watching his poor restart at Atlanta, I'm guessing they don't have green-white-checkered finishes in Formula One.
Paul Menard - OK, so his daddy bought him a ride, but who suddenly taught him how to drive?
Scott Speed - So he paints his toenails and pees in the shower. If he makes the Chase for the Sprint Cup, he can do anything he wants.
Carl Edwards - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has now choked another driver (Harvick), crashed Dale Jr.'s victory party (Michigan), feigned punching his own teammate (Kenseth) and given Keselowski some frequent flyer miles (Atlanta). The Carl has some issues.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. - Thought the wheels were coming off at Atlanta. And he's just now noticing that?

New this Week: Kasey Kahne - Dropped Out: David Reutimann
Gain of the Week: Kasey Kahne - Drop of the Week: Mark Martin
Jimmie Johnson = Kurt Busch probably won some fans over Sunday, for no other reason than he was the driver who stopped Jimmie Johnson. This is what it's come to.
Matt Kenseth = He would be an early candidate for Comeback Driver of the Year if it weren't for that pesky Kevin Harvick mucking up things.
Greg Biffle = The Biff has tiptoed his way through the early part of the season as quietly as someone can who's finished in the top 10 in every race.
Kurt Busch = Just when you think KuBusch and his team are going to implode, they respond with a win. That's sort of his M.O. He was at his best last year after his crew chief announced he was leaving. He threw his crew under the bus in Las Vegas. Sunday, he wins.
Mark Martin = Did you notice that Martin didn't have a sponsor on his hood at Atlanta? (No, a Hendrick website doesn't count.) Shows you how tight things are for everyone.
Kasey Kahne = Kahne hasn't had a resurgence the last two weeks. Rather, he simply hasn't run into any bad luck. He's had plenty of speed all season long.
Jeff Burton = When it comes to Burton, the standings are somewhat deceptive. Yes, he sits 6`th, but no, he hasn't finished in the top 10 more than once.
Tony Stewart = Prediction of the Week: Stewart will languish around 10th in the standings until early June, then win 3 races over the summer and vault to or near the top of the standings.
Jeff Gordon = (In Jerry Seinfeld voice) "What was the deal with those Hendrick cars at Atlanta? I mean, I haven't seen one family have that many issues since Jon and Kate broke up."
Lucky Dog: Paul Menard = We're still not ready to put him in the top 12. That said, Paul Menard will be a part of the top 12 press conferences in two weeks at Bristol. Amazing.
DNF: Carl Edwards = That was one of those deals where he probably thought it was open season on Brad Keselowski, and it was, just not to that degree.
In one race, Edwards transformed Keselowski from goat to victim.

ATLANTA * Week 4 of 36 * By: Mark Aumann
Who's Up - Biggest Gain this week:
Jeff Gordon: 15th to 7th
New This Week : Tony Stewart
Who's Down - Biggest Drop this week:
Kurt Busch: 6th to 16th
Dropped Out : Kurt Busch
Jimmie Johnson
It appears NASCAR is cracking down on the start-and-park teams, although perhaps competition would improve if it made it mandatory for all car numbers between 47 and 49.
Mark Martin
It's hard to believe Mark made his Atlanta debut way back in 1982.
Heck, there are some residents who may have been stuck in traffic that long.
Matt Kenseth
What does Matt have in common with a pirate?
They both have Parrotts telling them what to do.
Joey Logano
If you had made a bet that Joey would be higher in the standings than teammates Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin after 3 races, you could have owned half of Las Vegas by now.
Of course, with the economy, that's not saying much.
David Reutimann
Happy birthday to David, who turned the Big 4-0 on Tuesday.
I hope Mikey sprung for the inflatable ball pit, or at least a few games of skeeball at Chuck E. Cheese's.
Jamie McMurray
Was it me, or did Jamie's move on Juan at Las Vegas look suspiciously like the NASCAR version of Olympic short-track speed skating?
Kyle Busch
I'll say one thing: With finishes of 14th, 14th and 15th, Kyle's the poster child for consistency in 2010.
Carl Edwards
The real reason Carl's pit times were so slow at Las Vegas?
He kept pulling out his wallet to show the crew his new baby pictures.
